CSCE 314 Programming Languages Course Intro

– Hi, I’m Shawn Lupoli,
instructional professor for computer science and engineering. In CSCE 314, Programming Languages, we discuss the features of
a functional programming language and an object-oriented
programming language. In our first topic for
functional programming, we learn little features
about functional programming, but some of these
features are already items that you’ve been learning
in other languages. Our second topic is the
Java programming language. It’s an object-oriented language. And we get to see how that works and how it’s already
integrated with a lot of stuff that you’ve already
done in other languages. We’re also gonna learn about recursion and understand how powerful
recursion really is in use of lists, function calls and very complex data structures and how we get through them and solve all these applications
that we really want. That’s how powerful recursion is. Our third topic is basically
throughout the entire course, is that all the little
features that you see in functional programming and what you see in object-oriented, all
these little features that you’re actually using already and how it can make coding fun and easy. At the end of this
course, you’ll understand the little nuances of
how a functional language and an object-oriented
language could fit into little pieces and puzzles of our entire, complete programming language. (bright music)
